- Sculptra® Aesthetic indications: Nasolabial wrinkles, chin depressions

- Results last for: Up to Two years
- Injectable type: Poly-L-lactic acid dermal filler
Sculptra® Aesthetic is poly-L-lactic acid-based filler that is injected deep into the dermal layer of the face. This allows it to have a more gradual, natural effect as it restores lost volume to the face. Patients of Jefferson Plastic Surgery in Philadelphia undergo Sculptra® Aesthetic injections to lessen the appearance of shallow to deep creases and lines around the mouth and nose (nasolabial region). It is also injected to minimize the appearance of wrinkles on the chin. It works by replacing lost collagen in the treatment area.
Sculptra® Aesthetic Candidates
Patients should not undergo Sculptra® Aesthetic injections if they have a history of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring of the skin. In the case of an active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area, Sculptra® Aesthetic should not be injected. Sculptra® Aesthetic is only for use on the face and should not be injected into the lips.
The Sculptra® Aesthetic Procedure
Sculptra® Aesthetic is administered during three separate treatment appointments over several months. It is very important to undergo all three treatments in order to get the maximum benefit Sculptra® Aesthetic has to offer. Sculptra® Aesthetic is injected into the deep dermal layer of the skin using an ultrafine needle. Topical anesthetic may be used to ease discomfort from the injections.
Sculptra® Aesthetic Recovery
Apply a cold compress to the injection site for a few minutes at a time within the first 24 hours after treatment. This will help reduce the swelling. Patients should also massage the treated areas of the face for five minutes, five times a day, for five days after treatment. Avoid exposure to sunlight and UV light as much as possible following a Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment, in order to avoid prolonging redness and swelling.
Sculptra® Aesthetic Side Effects
Side effects of Sculptra® Aesthetic are generally mild and may include pain at the injection site, redness, bruising, bleeding, itching, or swelling. Other side effects may include small bumps under the skin that are sometimes noticeable when pressing on the treated area.
Sculptra® Aesthetic Risks
Although the risks associated with Sculptra® Aesthetic are minor compared to other cosmetic procedures such as a facelift or eyelid surgery, patients may notice some visible lumps, or nodules, under the skin at the injection site. These may be accompanied by inflammation and pain.
Sculptra® Aesthetic Results
Patients will likely see the initial results of the Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment within the first few days. In order to get the most benefit from Sculptra® Aesthetic’s gradual effects, patients should undergo all three treatments. Discuss with a doctor how far apart to schedule the treatments. Studies have shown that the effects of all three Sculptra® Aesthetic treatments can last up to two years.
Philadelphia Sculptra® Consultations
