Augmentation with Lift

At our Philadelphia practice, the breast augmentation with lift treatment is most commonly performed in women that have experienced changes in breast volume, breast shape, skin laxity, and/or nipple position after pregnancy and childbirth. This is a high customizable surgery that can be tailored to the unique needs and anatomy of the patient. The breast implant type, implant pocket location, incision approach, and lift technique will be chosen specifically for the patient's body type and aesthetic goals. The breast augmentation with lift treatment can be so personalized that it is highly unlikely that two of our patients will ever have the exact same treatment plan.

Breast Augmentation with Lift Candidates

Good candidates for a combination breast augmentation and lift include women who experienced:

  • Breast deflation
  • Changes in breast shape
  • Stretching of the breast skin
  • Droopiness of the nipples

In order to be considered for surgery, patients should be in good health, not smoke (or be willing to quit for a few weeks before and after surgery), and be aware that post-operative scarring will occur.

Breast Augmentation with Lift Techniques

Your breast augmentation with lift treatment plan may involve the use of breast augmentation and lift techniques.

Breast Lift Incision Location

To develop the treatment approach that is best suited to the needs of the patient, our surgeons will evaluate your breasts and determine the amount of lifting and nipple positioning that is required to achieve a good aesthetic. The breast lift techniques that we offer include:

  • Crescent lift
  • Doughnut lift
  • Lollipop lift
  • Anchor lift

Breast Implant Incision Location

For patients undergoing the breast augmentation with lift treatment, the areolar or inframammary incision locations are the most appropriate. Usually, the breast lift technique will determine the breast implant incision location. If the patient undergoes the crescent, doughnut, or lollipop lift technique, the implant will probably be placed through the incision that is made around the areola. If the patient undergoes the anchor lift technique, the implant will be placed through the inframammary incision.

Breast Implant Placement Location

The breast implant is either placed above or below the chest muscle. Breast implants placed below the chest muscle look more natural, but implants placed above the chest muscle produce more cleavage and less pain during recovery. The benefits and disadvantages of each placement approach can be discussed during your pre-operative consultation.

Breast Augmentation with Lift Procedure

The breast augmentation with lift procedure involves the following steps:

  1. The incision locations will be marked with a surgical pen
  2. The patient is put under anesthesia
  3. Antibacterial solution is applied to the breasts
  4. The surgical incisions are made
  5. The implant pocket is created
  6. The implant is placed and positioned in the pocket
  7. Excess skin is removed
  8. The skin is re-draped over the breast
  9. The nipple is moved to a more desirable and youthful location
  10. Once both breasts have been treated, we will check for unevenness and make adjustments to improve symmetry
  11. The incisions are closed
  12. Bandages are applied

Breast Augmentation with Lift Recovery

The breast augmentation with lift treatment involves a similar recovery process to the breast augmentation and lift procedures when they are performed on their own. After surgery:

  • Rest for a few days
  • Take a week off of work
  • Take pain medication to reduce discomfort
  • Keep the head elevated for two to three day after surgery
  • Begin massaging the breasts two to three days after surgery
  • Avoid showering until you get approval from our surgeons
  • Wear a soft bra for a month after surgery
  • Avoid strenuous activity or exercise for four to six weeks

Breast Augmentation with Lift Side Effects

The side effects associated with the breast augmentation with lift treatment includes:

  • Bruising
  • Discomfort
  • Inflammation
  • Itchiness around the incision
  • Numbness around the incision
  • Nausea for a few hours after surgery

Breast Augmentation with Lift Risks

The following complications are associated with the breast augmentation with lift treatment:

  • Infection
  • Allergic reaction
  • Bleeding
  • Poor healing of the incision
  • Problems with nipple sensation
  • Breast asymmetry
  • Capsular contracture (hardening around the implant)
  • Implant rippling
  • Implant rupture
  • Implant displacement

Breast Augmentation with Lift Results

The best results of the breast augmentation with lift procedure are seen about three months after surgery. Our patients are satisfied with the size, shape, and perkiness of the breasts after surgery.

While the majority of breast augmentation procedures are completed without incident, medical research over the last few years has found that breast implants can cause a rare form of cancer known as anaplastic large-cell lymphoma...
Choosing the correct implant type is crucial to obtaining a desired surgical result. While our surgeons will guide patients to the best decision, this article is a good first step to understanding the various options.
