• JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC indications: Cheekbones and loss of volume around the cheeks

High and prominent cheekbones produce an elegant, attractive appearance. However, not everyone is born with these gracefully contoured facial features. In addition, the effects of aging can lead to the loss of fullness around the cheeks, along with sagging skin around the middle portion of the face. Fortunately, there are treatments that can address these cosmetic issues. Our Philadelphia, PA plastic surgery center offers JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC injections, a long-lasting dermal filler treatment that provides the results of a facial lift without the need for surgery.

Good candidates for JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC include patients who would like to enhance the appearance of their cheeks and cheekbones without traditional cheek augmentation surgery and the use of artificial cheekbone implants. Patients should be at least 21 years old or older. If a patient is considering additional cosmetic procedures before or after JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC injections, they should discuss these plans with a plastic surgeon to prevent infection, scarring, changes in skin pigmentation, and other complications.

Unlike cheek augmentation surgery, there are no incisions involved in JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC treatment. The injection therapy involves no scarring or risk of major complications. During a consultation, a surgeon can determine if the patient will experience allergic reactions or other adverse side effects from the JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC solution.

The JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC treatment process is quick, and it can be performed in a doctor's office rather than in an operating suite. Using an ultrafine needle, a plastic surgeon carefully injects the JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC around the cheekbone area and the middle portion of the face. The exact amount administered will vary from patient to patient. Follow-up visits may be scheduled to monitor the short-term and long-term results of the JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC injections.

Recovery from JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is not particularly involved, especially when compared to facial implant surgery. To ensure speedy recovery, patients should avoid the following in the first 24 hours of treatment:

  • Direct and prolonged sun exposure
  • Exercise and strenuous physical activity
  • Consumption of alcoholic beverages

The majority of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC patients are able to return to work the day after their injection therapy has been performed.

After JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC treatment, patients may notice some tenderness, swelling, itching, or redness around the injection sites. A feeling of firmness is also common after JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC injections have been administered. These are all common reactions to the use of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Most patients will notice that these mild to moderate symptoms last about two to four weeks.

Patients who undergo JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC injections often say they look at least five years younger. The dermal filler provides natural results, meaning that many will not realize a patient has undergone a dermal filler treatment. The JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC will last approximately two years, at which point the procedure can be repeated to prolong the anti-aging results.
