KYBELLA® Candidates
Good candidates for KYBELLA® include patients who have a double chin or unwanted fat along select portions of the neckline. Often these patients would like to experience the effects of liposuction but without the downtime, scarring, and risks associated with a surgical procedure. KYBELLA® patients should be at least 18 years old.
The nature of the fat around the chin is an important component of KYBELLA® candidacy. If a person's double chin is the result of a localized pocket of fat in that area, KYBELLA® injections are an excellent solution to consider. KYBELLA® is not an ideal option for people who suffer from deeper layers of fat around the chin or also suffer from loose and excessive skin of the lower face and neckline. In these cases, facial liposuction or a neck lift may be more ideal.
KYBELLA® Procedure
KYBELLA® injection treatment is generally quick and easy. The procedure can be performed in a doctor's office rather than an operating suite. During the KYBELLA® treatment, a surgeon will administer multiple injections around the patient's chin and neckline. The overall treatment time will typically be around 20 minutes.
More than one KYBELLA® injection session will be required to achieve optimal results. Most patients will undergo six KYBELLA® treatment session, which are typically scheduled a month apart. During the consultation process, your surgeon will develop a customized treatment plan targeting your specific needs.
KYBELLA® Recovery
Patients will not be required to take time off from work after KYBELLA® injections have been administered. Avoiding sun exposure, exercise, strenuous physical activity, and consumption of alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours after KYBELLA® treatment usually helps improve the recovery process.
KYBELLA® Side Effects
The most common side effects after KYBELLA® treatment include swelling, bruising, soreness, redness, and numbness around the neck and chin. Firmness around the chin and neck are also common. In the vast majority of cases, these side effects resolve on their own over the course of a week or so.
In very rare instances, KYBELLA® can result in serious side effects and complications. This includes nerve injuries, muscle injuries, jaw problems, and issues with swallowing. Thankfully these serious side effects often resolve after a few days.
KYBELLA® Results
After undergoing a few KYBELLA® sessions, patients will notice a reduction of the size of their double chin. Since KYBELLA® destroys fat cells in the area, fat will no longer be able to accumulate around the chin. This means a permanent, lifelong solution to unwanted fat.
