Daddy Makeover Plastic Surgery

You’ve probably heard of mommy makeovers, which refer to a combination of cosmetic surgical procedures that women can undergo once they have decided to not have any more children. This package usually includes a breast augmentation or breast lift, liposuction, and a tummy tuck. The end goal is to help women regain the figure they had before becoming pregnant and nursing children.

Today, parenting has become more of a cooperative effort between mothers and fathers, so it is more common for men to notice ways in which their appearance has changed as a result of fatherhood. Between taking their turn at midnight feedings, shuttling kids to and from school or other activities, and putting in time coaching youth sports or volunteering for school events, dads may also see that they are also not in the shape they were before they became parents. This has lead to a rise in the popularity of what our staff at Jefferson Plastic Surgery calls Daddy Makeovers. What is included in a Daddy Makeover, and how can it help you regain a more youthful appearance?

Male Breast Reduction

Although overly large breasts are more common among women, men may also suffer from this condition, known as gynecomastia. Although overly large male breasts can be the result of fluctuating hormones, particularly during adolescence, they can also develop as a result of weight gain and leading a sedentary lifestyle.

During male breast reduction surgery, we can remove excess breast fat and tighten up any excess breast skin.

Liposuction

Since keeping up with the demanding schedule involved in raising kids can leave little time for exercise, it is not surprising that you may put on some unwanted pounds while you are devoting your time to being a father. This is why we recommend liposuction as part of a Daddy Makeover. A liposuction procedure is designed to remove stubborn pockets of excess fat that have not properly responded to a combination of a regular exercise routine and a sensible, low fat diet. Although liposuction is most often performed on the abdomen, it can also be done on the inner or outer thighs, hips, back, knees, upper or lower arms, or chin.

Your surgeon will start by making a series of small incisions in the areas where the fat will be removed. A thin, hollow metal tube will then be inserted through these incisions to vacuum out the excess fat. In some cases, lasers or ultrasound may be used to break up the fat cells to make them easier to remove.

Tummy Tuck

You may find that, while you have lost weight as a result of your attempts to keep up with your active kids, you may still be left with excess, loose skin and flabby muscle tone around your abdominal area. If this is the case, a tummy tuck will tighten up loose abdominal muscles and remove excess skin and tissue. It can be done alone or in conjunction with a liposuction procedure to remove abdominal fat.

Your surgeon will first make a horizontal incision from one hipbone to the other. The skin and tissue will then be lifted up. Any loose abdominal muscles will be tightened up with sutures, after which the skin and tissue will be re-draped, the excess removed, and the remainder sutured back into place.

Parenthood can be just as rewarding for fathers as for mothers. Unfortunately, it can also be just as exhausting and busy, leaving little time for yourself. A Daddy Makeover might be just what you need to reward yourself for a job well done in raising your kids.
